Light

Ash landscape è un’installazione composta di pezzi meccanici, cilindri ad aria compressa e valvole di recupero ricoperta di cenere.
Light è un’altra installazione composta di pezzi meccanici e germoglio in rinascita.
Sono entrambe installazioni site specific, quindi ciò che rimane di esse è la documentazione fotografica.
L’elemento simbolico di entrambi i lavori è proprio la cenere.
La Cenere è ciò che rimane quando il fuoco ha consumato tutto il resto. Secondo l’immaginario di molte culture antiche questo materiale contiene in forma concentrata le forze di quello che è bruciato. Come residuo purificato e raffreddato di un incendio, è anche simbolo della morte, della purificazione e della caducità della vita terrena.
La cenere non è solo un segno di umiltà, lutto e pentimento, ma anche di speranza di una nuova vita. La Fenice viene purificata dal fuoco e risorge ringiovanita dalle ceneri. Oppure secondo antiche dottrine e credenze, dalla cenere è possibile ricostruire l’immagini di fiori e piante dati alle fiamme.
Fin dall’antichità i residui della combustione del legno sono usati come fertilizzanti, a dimostrazione di come in natura sia difficile buttar via qualcosa, trovando sempre il modo di riciclare gli elementi e farli rivivere in altre forme.

Ash landscape and Light

Ash landscape is an installation composed of mechanical pieces, compressed air cylinder and recycled valves and in which everything is covered by dust.

Light is another installation composed by mechanical pieces and a tiny bud sprouting out.

Both the installations are site specific, and the photografic records is what remains of them.

Dust is precisely the symbolic element of these two works. Dust is what remains after the fire has worn out everything else. According to the imaginary of many ancient cultures, dust preserves in concentrated form the energies of what was burnt. As a purified and cooled residual of a fire, it is also a symbol of Death, purification and transience of the earthly life.

Dust is not only a sign of humility, repentance and sorrow, but also one of hope for a renovated life. The Phoenix is purified by the fire and through it comes back to life rejuvenated from its dusts. Or, according to ancient beliefs, the image of burnt flowers and plants can be reconstructed from the dust.

Since ancient times, fires residuals were used as fertilizers, as to demonstrate that in Nature it is difficult to throw something away. Everything can be always recycled and reused in other forms.
